About Mike

Mike first began working in the private business sector in 1977 when he served as Vice President of Quest Corporation, a small electronics firm in NW WI. He served as the director of marketing and recruited and trained five independent representatives, (four in the U.S. and one in Montreal Canada)  to sell the Quest photographic computer equipment.

Mike Durand

In 1979, it was on to the lumber industry when he purchased his own sawmill operation, (Durand Lumber Company Inc), from a cousin while also owning and managing a  residential construction firm. During the depths of the severe recession in the early 1980’s, Mike saw an opportunity to fulfill his dream and build a larger and more modern sawmill operation. He enlisted outside investment capital and negotiated additional funds from banks to procure the new equipment and built a new plant as well. Slowly, the recession ended and the pent up housing demand began to break loose positioning the company perfectly to capitalize on the rising demand for good quality northern hardwood lumber along with associated  rising prices to historic highs.  Mike resigned his position as president and moved to the twin cities to pursue new opportunities. He  attended the Univ. of MN and studied Industrial & Organizational Psychology with anticipation of entering the PhD program.

Mike founded his own consulting firm, Durand & Associates, Industrial and Organizational  Management Consultants, and provided training and organizational development for various companies and organizations in the Midwest. Soon thereafter, Mike decided to expand the scope of his operation and became licensed in life insurance and securities, (series 7),  and founded Durand Financial Inc., with a mission to provides independent consulting to businesses and companies in the area of Wealth Management offering fixed insurance products and non securities related solutions. Mike takes a unique approach in that he is selective in screening his clients to ensure  a good fit to build a long lasting relationship, and to provide high quality  and comprehensive delivery of services to his clients. He also has been a radio broadcaster with his radio show about financial topics of discussion and, has also written numerous article in his own newsletter. Additionally, Mike founded and helped launch a family foundation, the Durand Heritage Foundation, Inc. registered in the state of MN. He served as the President during the developmental stage and continues to serve on the board of directors as the Treasurer and membership committee chair.

Mike has a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin with a double major in Psychology and Sociology, and has attended the Masters Program in Educational Psychology also at the Univ. of WI. Additionally, Mike has attended the University of MN and studied Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Mike is a lifelong learner and has spent many hours and dollars to take his life and professionalism to the highest level.

Mike served five years in the Marines and traveled throughout twenty one different countries, mostly while serving as one of the elite Marine guards at the American Embassy in Vienna, Austria.

An avid downhill Alpine, and cross country skier in the winter, a biker in the summer with his trusty Trek, twenty one speed bike, and a racquetball player, is testimony to Mike’s competitive spirit and his passion for health and wellness.

He enjoys time spent at their other home tucked in the north woods of NW WI where he was born and raised and overlooks the farm where he first developed his work ethic and rock solid values, attitudes and beliefs. While at the farm, Mike likes to drive his vintage tractors around and “look and feel important”!

He has been married to his wife Marilyn for over forty years and together, they have four children and seven grandchildren.

Mike is currently carries a resident life insurance license in MN and a non resident license in WI, IL, AZ and FL. All offering are non-securities related.
